Here is the situation: we are an Amazon affiliate site. We have said this before, we are saying it now, and we will say it again on every page of this website because we believe in transparency to the point of redundancy.

When you click a link on our site that goes to Amazon, that link contains a small tracking code. If you buy something on Amazon within 24 hours of clicking, we earn a commission. The commission is a percentage of the sale price. The percentage varies by product category but typically lands somewhere between 1% and 10%. For most of the products we recommend, it is around 3-4%.

To be concrete: if you buy a ~$25 Squatty Potty through our link, we earn approximately $0.75. If you buy a ~$50 bidet attachment, we earn approximately $1.50. If you buy a ~$10,500 smart toilet, we would very much like to hear about your bathroom and also we would earn approximately $315, which would represent a significant portion of our projected annual revenue.

The cookies last 24 hours. This means if you click our link, leave Amazon, come back three hours later, and buy a completely different product, we still earn a commission on that product. We did not design this system. We merely participate in it with great enthusiasm and modest financial returns.

Your price is the same whether you use our link or not. We want to be very clear about this. Using our links costs you nothing extra. It just means Amazon shares a sliver of their revenue with us instead of keeping all of it. Given that Amazon's annual revenue is approximately $575 billion and ours is significantly less than that, we feel this is a reasonable arrangement.

Our product recommendations are not influenced by commission rates. We recommend things because they are genuinely interesting, surprisingly useful, or so absurd that their existence demands acknowledgment. If a product is terrible, we will not recommend it regardless of how much commission it pays. Our integrity is non-negotiable. Our revenue, apparently, is.
